GRAMMAR

Grammar is the system of a language. People sometimes describe grammar as the "rules" of a language; but in fact no language has rules. If we use the word "rules", we suggest that somebody created the rules first and then spoke the language, like a new game. But languages did not start like that. Languages started by people making sounds which evolved into words, phrases and sentences. In KUMON Egypt, we consider English grammar the engine room of English and  we  dedicate  a  majority  of  our experties to help

develope this highly complex element of English and make sure each Kumon student follows and fully understands the grammatical terms within his/her curriculum.

POETRY

Poetry is literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature.

Why does Kumon incorporate Poetry within its curriculum?

Poetry is a powerful tool for raising standards in literacy and developing language skills. It frequently releases untapped potential amongst  students who are not confident in traditional narrative or essay writing. And for the higher grades, our aim is to have students feel and taste poetry before studying it.

PHONICS

Phonics is the study and classification of speech sounds. The branch of linguistics that deals with sounds of speech and their production, combination, descroption, and representation by written symbols.

Teaching phonics starts from the very first day your child decides to learn English. A slight change in a sound could ruin a whole speech so for the importance of this musical element of English, and for the way it is neglected in Egypt, KUMON Egypt puts an extra focus on phonics included within the curriculum using KUMON's well structured and fundamental phonic skills.

SPELLING AND VOCABULARY

Spelling is the process or activity of writing or naming the letters of a word. it is the conventions which determine how the graphemes of a writing system are used to write a language.

In English words generally have accepted standard spellings which can vary regionally or nationally. Spellings attempt to transcribe the sounds of the language into alphabetic letters.

Pronunciation changes over time in all languages, and spelling reforms are irregular in most languages and rare in some. At KUMON Egypt, we aim to structure and modify individual student's core needs and work from the KUMON curriculum to build a solid foundation parallel to the student's school curriculum.
